The Ben Stout House
| The Ben Stout House, at 8630 Stout Road, is a stone cottage with a raised
basement. It has a pair of end chimneys, one interior and one exterior. Stucco
previously covered the entire house, but was removed in a recent restoration. The
property was owned from 1836 to 1859 by Daniel Omer. Ben Stout purchased the
property from the Omer family and held it for over 40 years. |
 |
Owners in the early part of the 20th century were of the Donaldson family. The
present owner is Mr. Kevin Kane. This house is one of the few remaining stone
structures in the County and is unique in its modest size and simplicity. The only
decorative feature is the pattern and texture of the stone. The isolated location of
the house gives emphasis to its small scale and solid construction. It is a member
of the National Register of Historical Places (NRHP).
