Water Quality Tests

Objective: Students will determine the amount of dissolved oxygen and nitrate in the water of Floyds Fork at various locations.tr_testkits.jpg (38357 bytes)

Learner Goals: 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6

Materials: Water-test kit

Procedure:

1. Samples will be taken at a number of locations along Floyds Fork.

2. The dissolved oxygen test must be done on site. However, the nitrate test can be labeled and done in the lab as a follow-up.tr_dip.jpg (26569 bytes)

Assessment: Teachers will want to write their own follow-up questions depending on the type of course doing the study; Chemistry, Biology, or Integrated Science.
